2007 Art Competition Results
In 2007, the Secretariat launched its first ever art competition for children and youth. As it was a pilot project, the competition was limited to the Montreal area schools, in Canada, home of the Secretariat of the CBD. The theme of the competition was "Biodiversity and Climate Change", coinciding with last year's theme for the celebrations of the International Day for Biological Diversity, 22 May.
Montreal students responded to the challenge with tremendous enthusiasm. Who could have imagined that a plain white sheet of paper could be transformed into a work of art which eloquently depicts how the changing climate is affecting the diversity of life on Earth. There is no denying that today’s youth are the future stewards of biodiversity. The entire staff of the Secretariat was invited to assist in the judging of the art works, and three winners per category were selected.

With over 200 works of art received, the Secretariat is eager to support more art competitions in other parts of the world. We hope children and youth everywhere will share with us their creative visions of the diversity of life on Earth. Keep visiting our site for updates!
