CBD Technical Series No. 10 and No. 25
Following a request from the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA), an Ad Hoc Technical Expert Group (AHTEG) was established in 2001 to carry out an assessment of the interlinkages between biodiversity and climate change. Completed in 2003, the report focuses primarily on the impacts of climate change mitigation options on biodiversity and the links between them in the context of the Kyoto Protocol. The report also presents approaches for supporting planning, decision making and public discussions (
CBD Technical Series No. 10).
An additional AHTEG on biodiversity and adaptation contributed to the integration of climate change considerations within the multiple programmes of work of the Convention. The findings of this group, along with a number of case studies from all over the world, have recently been published as
CBD Technical Series No. 25. The report contains an assessment of the integration of biodiversity considerations in the design and implementation of adaptation activities. The report also presents some approaches, methods and tools for planning, designing and implementing adaptation activities that also include biodiversity considerations.
Joint Liaison Group
The
Joint Liaison Group, which comprises the CBD, the UNFCCC and the UNCCD, identified, during its fifth meeting in January 2004, a number of opportunities for collaboration. These mutually supporting activities will continue to be developed and expanded as the programmes of work of the three conventions continue to evolve.
Adaptation Planning Database
The
Adaptation Planning Database gathers information and tools for the integration of biodiversity within adaptation planning from a number of relevant partners. Its purpose is to support Parties as they continue to integrate climate change impacts and response activities through their implementation of the CBD.
